Impactor Assembly
The Impactor Assembly is a reusable instrument for the implantation or extraction of the FastLok™ staple and buckle system for fixation of suture and tape to cortical bone.
The instrument is manufactured to exacting tolerances of medical-grade stainless steel. The Impactor Assembly is used with the Xiros Sliding Hammer.
For the implantation or extraction of the FastLok™ staple system
The Impactor Assembly is a stainless-steel reusable instrument designed to implant or extract the FastLok 6 mm and 8mm staples. The instrument consists of a set of jaws at the distal end which securely lock the FastLok to the instrument and a surface on the proximal end which can be attached to a Sliding Hammer system provided by Xiros. The combination of the Impactor Assembly and Sliding Hammer is an effective method to implant or extract the Fastlok staple system.
Indications
The Impactor Assembly is intended for the insertion or extraction of the FastLok:
- Implant or extraction of FastLok 6 mm X 23 mm
- Implant or extraction of FastLok 8 mm X 23 mm
How does it work?
The Impactor Assembly is used to implant or extract the FastLok™ 6 mm and 8 mm staple system. The Impactor Assembly is sterilized prior to use in the surgical procedure. The FastLok is attached to the Impactor Assembly with the adjustable jaws. The adjustable jaws are opened (rotating the proximal end counterclockwise) and closed (rotating the proximal end clockwise). Once the FastLok is secured in the adjustable jaws, the sliding hammer is attached to the proximal end of the Impactor Assembly by threading the distal end of the Sliding Hammer into the proximal threaded end of the Impactor Assembly. The sliding hammer is manipulated from proximal to distal, translating the force needed to implant the FastLok staple. Once the staple is implanted, the sliding hammer is removed and the jaws of the Impactor Assembly are opened by rotating the proximal Impactor end counterclockwise, releasing the staple.
To extract the FastLok, the Impactor Assembly is brought into the surgical field and the distal jaws are placed over the FastLok. The jaws are closed by rotating the proximal end of the Impactor Assembly clockwise. The Sliding Hammer is attached to the proximal end of the Impactor. The hammer is manipulated from distal to proximal, translating the force needed to remove the FastLok. The Impactor Assembly, Sliding Hammer and FastLok are removed from the operative field and separated.
